New every morning

It is because of Yahweh’s loving kindnesses that we are not consumed, because his compassion doesn’t fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.

Lamentations is a book of grief, written after Jerusalem fell. Most of it is raw sorrow. Then, right in the middle, comes this.

The writer hasn't stopped hurting. The chapters on either side are still full of loss. But he remembers something true: God's kindness hasn't run out, and his compassion doesn't fail.

A daily supply

"New every morning" sounds like manna in the wilderness: enough for today, given fresh tomorrow. We don't have to store up yesterday's mercy or borrow tomorrow's. Each morning there is a fresh supply.

That's partly why this site exists. One verse, each morning, as a reminder that God's faithfulness starts the day before we do.
